In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of snails (except sea snails), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, snail exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons) represented the key exporter of snails (except sea snails), constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), generating a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Algeria (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Algeria (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of snails (except sea snails) increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Israel was the key importer of snails (except sea snails) in MENA, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Israel experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of snails (except sea snails). At the same time, Oman (X%) and Morocco (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (X%), Turkey (X%), Tunisia (X%) and Saudi Arabia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Israel was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (X% per year) and Morocco (X% per year).
