Exports in MENA

In 2022, overseas shipments of paper and paperboard (creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated) decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, paper and paperboard exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper and paperboard exports from Saudi Arabia stood at X%. At the same time, Tunisia (X%) and Turkey (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
