Clay Exports

Exports in MENA

In 2023, shipments abroad of clays decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a eleven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, clay exports reached $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2023 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the clays exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Egypt (X%) and the United Arab Emirates (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Iran (X%) and Morocco (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2023, the amount of clays imported in MENA dropped to X tons, which is down by X% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, clay imports expanded modestly to $X in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Turkey represented the largest importer of clays in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023.
