The following exporters - Kuwait (X units), Lebanon (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) - together made up 6.8% of total exports.
Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of casks, barrels, vats, tubs, and coopers products of wood. Kuwait (-2.3%), Lebanon (-4.8%), Saudi Arabia (-8.8%), Israel (-9.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (-22.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+33 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Saudi Arabia, Israel and the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -3.9%, -4.9% and -11% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest wood barrel supplier in MENA, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 3% share.
In Turkey, wood barrel exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (-10.5% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-9.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wood barrel export price increased by +105.4% against 2020 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Saudi Arabia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, wood barrel imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
Israel was the key importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 76% of total imports. Turkey (X units) held a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Lebanon (6.4%). The following importers - Morocco (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) - each reached a 3.3% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to wood barrel imports into Israel stood at +3.2%. At the same time, Turkey (+5.8%) and Lebanon (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +5.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.2%) and Morocco (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Israel (+7.8 p.p.) and Turkey (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Morocco saw its share reduced by -5.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Israel ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported casks, barrels, vats, tubs, and coopers products of wood in MENA, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Israel totaled +2.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+7.4% per year) and Lebanon (-1.6% per year).

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 36% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
