Exports in MENA

In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of carpets and other textile floor coverings, when their volume decreased by X% to X square meters. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, carpet exports declined to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X square meters, which was near X% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Egypt (X square meters), Iran (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) - each reached a X% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Iran experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Egypt (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (X p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (X p.p.) and Egypt (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest carpet supplier in MENA, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iran ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a X% share.

In Turkey, carpet exports expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iran (X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per square meter in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per square meter), while Turkey ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (X%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, the amount of carpets and other textile floor coverings imported in MENA shrank to X square meters, with a decrease of X% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter), while Iran ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
