Silver Ore Exports

Exports from Mexico

For the third consecutive year, Mexico recorded growth in overseas shipments of silver ores and concentrates, which increased by 54% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 127% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, silver ore exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for silver ore exports from Mexico, with a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, silver ore exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany stood at +61.6%.

In value terms, Germany ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for silver ore exports from Mexico, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports.

The average silver ore export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -49.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 21%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Mexico

In 2021, imports of silver ores and concentrates into Mexico skyrocketed to X tons, surging by 358% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,442% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, silver ore imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 427% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Honduras (X tons) was the main supplier of silver ore to Mexico, accounting for a 99.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Bolivia (X kg), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Honduras stood at +16.3%.

In value terms, Honduras ($X) constituted the largest supplier of silver ore to Mexico, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bolivia ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports.

Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the price for Honduras stood at $X per ton.
