Shampoo Market Size in Mexico

In 2020, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in the Mexican shampoo market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Shampoo consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the production volume increased by X% y-o-y. Shampoo production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, overseas shipments of shampoos decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, shampoo exports shrank significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The U.S. (X tonnes), Colombia (X tonnes) and Chile (X tonnes) were the main destinations of shampoo exports from Mexico, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Chile, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Peru ($X) and Colombia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for shampoo exported from Mexico worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Chile recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average shampoo export price amounted to $X per tonne, waning by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Cuba ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Mexico

In 2020, overseas purchases of shampoos decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, shampoo imports contracted significantly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then declined notably in the following year.

In 2020, the U.S. (X tonnes) constituted the largest shampoo supplier to Mexico, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, shampoo imports from the U.S. exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Brazil (X tonnes), threefold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the U.S. stood at -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per tonne), while the price for Brazil ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
