Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, video game console imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X units) was the largest importer of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments), comprising 52% of total imports. Chile (X units) took a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (9%), Argentina (8.7%), Peru (5.6%) and Paraguay (5.4%).
Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) imports, with a CAGR of +6.5% from 2012 to 2022. Chile (-1.4%), Peru (-5.0%), Colombia (-7.2%), Argentina (-11.5%) and Paraguay (-24.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+38 p.p.) and Chile (+7.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Argentina (-6 p.p.) and Paraguay (-38.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X), Chile ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 80% of total imports.
Brazil, with a CAGR of +10.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MERCOSUR stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
