In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments), when their volume decreased by -9.7% to X units. In general, exports, however, showed perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, video game console exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 70%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units), distantly followed by Tunisia (X units), Oman (X units) and Israel (X units) represented the key exporters of video game consoles (not operated by means of payments), together achieving 95% of total exports. Morocco (X units) and Turkey (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +116.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest video game console supplying countries in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Tunisia ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising 90% of total exports. These countries were followed by Oman, Turkey and Morocco, which together accounted for a further 9.9%.
Among the main exporting countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +268.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Morocco ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Video game console imports shrank to X units in 2022, waning by -12.9% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 56%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, video game console imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which accounted for 40% of total imports. Iraq (X units) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (10%), Turkey (8.3%) and Qatar (7.5%). The following importers - Kuwait (X units), Oman (X units) and Algeria (X units) - together made up 8.5% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to video game console imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -4.6%. At the same time, Qatar (+26.1%), Kuwait (+11.7%), Oman (+11.1%), Israel (+10.3%), Iraq (+9.0%) and Algeria (+7.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Qatar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +26.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Turkey (-5.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iraq, Qatar, Israel, Kuwait and Oman increased by +9.2, +6.7, +6.5, +2.3 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported video game consoles (not operated by means of payments) in MENA, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Israel ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Iraq, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +1.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+18.0% per year) and Iraq (+13.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
