In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Oman (X tons) were the largest exporters of quicklime in MENA, together achieving 67% of total exports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (11%). The following exporters - Iran (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Israel (X tons) - together made up 6.6% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Morocco (with a CAGR of +72.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest quicklime supplying countries in MENA were Oman ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Turkey ($X), together comprising 76% of total exports. These countries were followed by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Israel and Morocco, which together accounted for a further 20%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +60.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, declining by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+5.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, purchases abroad of quicklime was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, quicklime imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Oman was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 57% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bahrain (X tons), creating a 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Palestine (X tons), Israel (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Qatar (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.
Oman was also the fastest-growing in terms of the quicklime imports, with a CAGR of +71.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+31.9%), Qatar (+28.2%), Iraq (+20.6%), Israel (+19.2%) and Jordan (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Palestine (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Oman and Bahrain increased by +56 and +16 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -11.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
