The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, x-ray examination preparations exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 79%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the largest exporter of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations, generating 85% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), mixing up a 10% share of total exports. Morocco (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +67.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+80.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +80.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Turkey (+82 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-6.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest x-ray examination preparations supplier in MENA, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports.
In Turkey, x-ray examination preparations exports increased at an average annual rate of +60.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+14.1% per year) and Morocco (+55.1% per year).

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 48% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations decreased by -19.6% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, x-ray examination preparations imports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the key importers of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations in MENA, together recording near 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), Israel (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together mixing up a 39% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest x-ray examination preparations importing markets in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Iran ($X), with a combined 54% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
