In value terms, marble granules and powder exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2021. Iran (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the granules, chippings and powder of marble exports, with a CAGR of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021. Iran (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Iran saw its share reduced by -5.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest marble granules and powder supplier in MENA, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iran ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per ton), while Turkey stood at $X per ton.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of granules, chippings and powder of marble were finally on the rise to reach X tons after five years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, marble granules and powder imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Tunisia was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 38% of total imports. Iraq (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Israel (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Libya (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 53% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to marble granules and powder imports into Tunisia stood at -2.7%. At the same time, Israel (+25.5%), Iraq (+25.1%), Saudi Arabia (+17.2%) and Qatar (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +25.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Libya (-7.0%) and Algeria (-11.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Iraq (+12 p.p.), Israel (+8.4 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+5.3 p.p.) and Qatar (+5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Libya (-3.7 p.p.) and Algeria (-11.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 57% of total imports.
Israel, with a CAGR of +23.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 63%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
