The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -5.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 37%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2021, the amount of brewing or distilling dregs and waste exported in MENA soared to X tons, increasing by 34% against 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 234% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, brewing dregs exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 4,291% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which reached 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), constituting an 11% share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brewing or distilling dregs and waste exports, with a CAGR of -14.2% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-33.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+89 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-89.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest brewing dregs supplier in MENA, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to -8.8%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 74% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the export price increased by 1,214%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+36.1%).

Imports in MENA
In 2021, purchases abroad of brewing or distilling dregs and waste increased by 3.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 69%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, brewing dregs imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Turkey represented the main importer of brewing or distilling dregs and waste in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 59% of total imports in 2021. Israel (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Morocco (X tons) and Egypt (X tons). All these countries together took near 38% share of total imports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the brewing or distilling dregs and waste imports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Egypt (+7.8%), Israel (+7.6%) and Morocco (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey increased by +18 percentage points.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brewing or distilling dregs and waste in MENA, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Morocco, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +17.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+6.0% per year) and Morocco (+6.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 28% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Turkey ($X per ton) and Israel ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) and Morocco ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
