In 2021, overseas shipments of aluminium tubes and pipes decreased by -2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium tube exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +55.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia represented the main exporter of aluminium tubes and pipes in MENA, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 42% of total exports in 2021. Turkey (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Oman (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 54% share of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +70.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest aluminium tube supplying countries in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Oman ($X), together accounting for 93% of total exports.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +87.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of aluminium tubes and pipes, when their volume decreased by -23.3% to X tons. Total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 40%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium tube imports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Oman (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 70% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), comprising a 6.5% share of total imports. Algeria (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +82.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Oman ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aluminium tubes and pipes in MENA, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Yemen ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Oman totaled +38.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Yemen (+68.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-4.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
