The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and Bangladesh (X tons) were the main destinations of uncoated kraft liner exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 83% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +29.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for uncoated kraft liner exports from Malaysia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United Arab Emirates stood at +40.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (-5.1% per year) and Singapore (-1.8% per year).

The average uncoated kraft liner export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 28%. In 2021, the amount of uncoated kraft liner imported into Malaysia fell to X tons, with a decrease of -7.4% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest uncoated kraft liner supplier to Malaysia, with a 49% share of total imports. Moreover, uncoated kraft liner imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by New Zealand (X tons), with a 7.3% share.

In value terms, Japan ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncoated kraft liner to Malaysia, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand, with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Japan stood at +14.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+7.7% per year) and New Zealand (-4.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average uncoated kraft liner import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
