For the third year in a row, the Malaysian shampoo market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption saw a remarkable increase. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Singapore (X tonnes), the Philippines (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) were the main destinations of shampoo exports from Malaysia, together accounting for X% of total exports. Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Viet Nam, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan (Chinese) and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for shampoo exported from Malaysia were Singapore ($X), the Philippines ($X) and the U.S. ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong SAR, Viet Nam, Myanmar and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shampoo export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Australia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
