Exports from Malaysia

In 2022, shipments abroad of sacks and bags of polymers of ethylene was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 13%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ethylene polymer bag exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 9.8% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Australia (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main destinations of ethylene polymer bag exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 70% of total exports. Singapore, the UK, Norway, New Zealand, France and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of sacks and bags of polymers of ethylene, when their volume decreased by -9.6% to X tons. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
