Potato Market Size in Malaysia

In 2019, the Malaysian potato market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, the total consumption indicated a pronounced expansion from 2007 to 2019: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve-year period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, potato exports dropped significantly to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand (X tonnes), Singapore (X tonnes) and Indonesia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of potato exports from Malaysia, with a combined X% share of total exports. Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further X 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Myanmar, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest markets for potato exported from Malaysia worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Myanmar, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
