Chestnut Market Size in Malaysia

The Malaysian chestnut market contracted to $X in 2019, waning by -X% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Thailand totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+X% per year) and Singapore (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for chestnut exported from Malaysia were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X terms of the main countries of destination, Indonesia saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2019, the average chestnut export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a moderate expansion. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2018, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Chestnut imports into Malaysia contracted to X tonnes in 2019, shrinking by -X% on 2018 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, chestnut imports reduced to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt descent. The smallest decline of -X% was in 2018. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.
