Citrus Fruit Market Size in Luxembourg

For the third year in a row, the Luxembourg citrus fruit market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports soared to $X in 2020. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs in 2020 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

France (X tonnes) was the main destination for citrus fruit exports from Luxembourg, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, citrus fruit exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Belgium (X tonnes), twofold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for citrus fruit exported from Luxembourg were France ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Germany saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average citrus fruit export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to France ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, purchases abroad of citrus fruits decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports declined to $X in 2020. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Moreover, citrus fruit imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by France (X tonnes), with a X% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the price for Egypt ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
