Imports into Libya

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles, when their volume increased by 42% to X square meters. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 73%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of photographic paper to Libya, accounting for a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic paper imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X square meters), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to -17.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+4.0% per year) and Belgium (-9.8% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles to Libya, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 9.4% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from the United Arab Emirates totaled -18.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+3.5% per year) and Belgium (-17.5% per year).

In 2021, the average photographic paper import price amounted to $X per square meter, waning by -18.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter), while the price for Belgium ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
