The Libyan glass fibres and wool market surged to $X in 2022, increasing by 30% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a deep setback. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glass fibres and wool imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 1,005%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Malaysia (X tons), China (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of glass fibres and wool imports to Libya, together accounting for 78% of total imports. Tunisia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +52.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest glass fibres and wool suppliers to Libya were China ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 60% share of total imports. Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

Among the main suppliers, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +49.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average glass fibres and wool import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+35.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
