In 2019, shipments abroad of yarn spun from silk waste was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2019, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spun yarn exports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2019, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Peru prevails in spun yarn exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2019. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X kg), achieving a X% share of total exports.

Peru experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of yarn spun from silk waste. Brazil (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Peru (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Imports by Country

Peru was the largest importer of yarn spun from silk waste in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2019. Mexico (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. Uruguay (X kg) and Jamaica (X kg) occupied a little share of total imports.

Imports into Peru decreased at an average annual rate of -X% from 2007 to 2019. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+X%), Chile (+X%), Jamaica (+X%) and Guatemala (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2019. By contrast, Mexico (-X%) and Uruguay (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2019, the share of Peru, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Jamaica increased by +X%, +X%, +X%, +X% and +X% percentage points, while Uruguay (-X p.p.) and Mexico (-X p.p.) saw their share reduced.
