Asphalted Paper Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of tarred, bituminised or asphalted paper and paperboard exported in Latin America and the Caribbean shrank remarkably to X tons, dropping by X% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, asphalted paper exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Mexico dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Costa Rica (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports. Chile (X tons) and El Salvador (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to asphalted paper exports from Mexico stood at X%. At the same time, El Salvador (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, El Salvador emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Costa Rica (X%) and Chile (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mexico (X p.p.) and El Salvador (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Costa Rica and Chile saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of tarred, bituminised or asphalted paper and paperboard increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, asphalted paper imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Chile (X tons), distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), Guatemala (X tons) and Nicaragua (X tons) were the major importers of tarred, bituminised or asphalted paper and paperboard, together constituting X% of total imports. Brazil (X tons), Honduras (X tons), the Dominican Republic (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
