In 2021, shipments abroad of tantalum was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tantalum exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
El Salvador (X kg) and Mexico (X kg) dominates exports structure, together mixing up X% of total exports. Brazil (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in El Salvador (with a CAGR of +X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest tantalum supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by El Salvador ($X), with a X% share of total exports.
In Mexico, tantalum exports contracted by an average annual rate of -X% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: El Salvador (-X% per year) and Brazil (-X% per year).

In value terms, tantalum imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a slight decrease. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, El Salvador (X tonnes) and Mexico (X tonnes) was the main importer of tantalum in Latin America and the Caribbean, committing X% of total import.
