Silver Ore Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, the amount of silver ores and concentrates exported in Latin America and the Caribbean soared to X tons, rising by 35% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, silver ore exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Peru (X tons) and Mexico (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together committing 92% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), achieving a 4.6% share of total exports. Bolivia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +29.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Bolivia ($X), Peru ($X) and Mexico ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 84% share of total exports.

Mexico, with a CAGR of +4.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 8.6%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Silver Ore Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the third consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in purchases abroad of silver ores and concentrates, which decreased by -14.1% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 2,014%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silver ore imports contracted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 167%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Chile prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 97% of total imports in 2021. Mexico (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Chile was also the fastest-growing in terms of the silver ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +21.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mexico (+13.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Chile (+9.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Chile ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silver ores and concentrates in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mexico ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.

In Chile, silver ore imports expanded at an average annual rate of +27.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 100% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Chile amounted to $X per ton.
