Roundwood Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the Latin American roundwood market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roundwood production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Roundwood Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of roundwood increased by X% to X cubic meters in 2022. In general, exports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, roundwood exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Uruguay (X cubic meters) and Honduras (X cubic meters) were the key exporters of roundwood in Latin America and the Caribbean, together reaching approx. X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Paraguay (X cubic meters), mixing up a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Uruguay (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Uruguay ($X) remains the largest roundwood supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Honduras ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter, and then declined sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per cubic meter), while Honduras (less than $X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (X%).

Roundwood Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2022, the amount of roundwood imported in Latin America and the Caribbean shrank to X cubic meters, falling by X% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a measured expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, roundwood imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Cayman Islands was the largest importer of roundwood in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports recording X cubic meters, which was near X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X cubic meters), Brazil (X cubic meters) and the Dominican Republic (X cubic meters), together generating a X% share of total imports. Curacao (X cubic meters) held a relatively small share of total imports.
