Exports by Country
Brazil represented the major exporter of roundwood (coniferous) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports amounting to X cubic meters, which was approx. 52% of total exports in 2021. Argentina (X cubic meters) took a 32% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Chile (12%). Uruguay (X cubic meters) took a little share of total exports.

After two years of growth, overseas purchases of roundwood (coniferous) decreased by -22% to X cubic meters in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, coniferous roundwood imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 84% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Dominican Republic (X cubic meters), Cayman Islands (X cubic meters), Bahamas (X cubic meters), British Virgin Islands (X cubic meters), Suriname (X cubic meters), Mexico (X cubic meters) and Peru (X cubic meters) represented roughly 86% of total imports in 2021.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Suriname (with a CAGR of +59.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest coniferous roundwood importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Bahamas ($X), Cayman Islands ($X) and Peru ($X), with a combined 43% share of total imports. The Dominican Republic, Mexico, British Virgin Islands and Suriname lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
Suriname, with a CAGR of +58.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per cubic meter, reducing by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
