Refined Rapeseed Oil Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Latin American refined rapeseed oil market totaled $X in 2021, with an increase of 3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Refined Rapeseed Oil Production in Latin America and the Caribbean

In value terms, refined rapeseed oil production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a deep setback. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Refined Rapeseed Oil Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, exports of refined rape, colza or mustard oil in Latin America and the Caribbean shrank to X tons, with a decrease of -5.2% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, refined rapeseed oil exports reduced to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +92.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uruguay prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. Chile (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.5% share, followed by Brazil (8.2%). The following exporters - Mexico (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) - each accounted for a 7.5% share of total exports.

Uruguay was also the fastest-growing in terms of the refined rape, colza or mustard oil exports, with a CAGR of +115.5% from 2012 to 2021. Brazil (-1.2%), Chile (-4.4%), Honduras (-6.1%) and Mexico (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uruguay (+75 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Honduras (-9 p.p.), Brazil (-10 p.p.), Chile (-16.7 p.p.) and Mexico (-39 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uruguay ($X) emerged as the largest refined rapeseed oil supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 10% share.

In Uruguay, refined rapeseed oil exports increased at an average annual rate of +98.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Chile (-5.5% per year) and Brazil (-3.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -1.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Refined Rapeseed Oil Imports

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of refined rape, colza or mustard oil, when their volume decreased by -22.9% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 78%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, refined rapeseed oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Mexico dominates imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 76% of total imports in 2021. Honduras (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Brazil (X tons), Panama (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Mexico increased at an average annual rate of +40.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Brazil (+46.7%), Honduras (+25.9%), Chile (+18.9%) and Guatemala (+16.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Brazil emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Panama (-4.1%) and Colombia (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mexico and Brazil increased by +54 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported refined rape, colza or mustard oil in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Honduras ($X), with a 3.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Guatemala, with a 2.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mexico totaled +34.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Honduras (+28.7% per year) and Guatemala (+17.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 53% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while Honduras ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
