Exports by Country

In 2018, Argentina (X tonnes), distantly followed by Mexico (X tonnes), Colombia (X tonnes), Brazil (X tonnes) and Chile (X tonnes) were the key exporters of pesticides, together achieving X% of total exports. Guatemala (X tonnes) and Costa Rica (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Mexico, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Argentina ($X), Colombia ($X) and Brazil ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2018, with a combined X% share of total exports. In 2018, the pesticide export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, the pesticide export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices for pesticides attained their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

Export prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest export price was Brazil ($X per tonne), while Costa Rica ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

The imports stood at X tonnes in 2018, flattening at the previous year. The total imports indicated a remarkable expansion from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, the pesticide imports increased by +X% against 2007 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when imports increased by X% y-o-y. The volume of imports peaked at X tonnes in 2017, leveling off in the following year.

Brazil was the key importer of pesticides in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X tonnes, which was near X% of total imports in 2018. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tonnes), Argentina (X tonnes), Paraguay (X tonnes), Bolivia (X tonnes), Colombia (X tonnes) and Chile (X tonnes), together generating X% share of total imports. The following importers - Ecuador (X tonnes), Uruguay (X tonnes), Peru (X tonnes), Costa Rica (X tonnes) and Nicaragua (X tonnes) together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, Peru (+X%), Nicaragua (+X%), Mexico (+X%), Bolivia (+X%), Ecuador (+X%), Paraguay (+X%), Colombia (+X%), Argentina (+X%), Chile (+X%), Costa Rica (+X%) and Uruguay (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest growing importer in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. Nicaragua (-X%), Chile (-X%), Ecuador (-X%), Colombia (-X%), Peru (-X%), Paraguay (-X%), Bolivia (-X%), Argentina (-X%), Mexico (-X%) and Brazil (-X%) significantly weakened its position in terms of the global imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pesticides in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total pesticide imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+X% per year) and Argentina (+X% per year).
