For the third year in a row, the Latin American canned mushroom market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 7.7% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 9.7%. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned mushroom production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 200%. In 2022, overseas shipments of canned mushrooms increased by 9.5% to X tons, rising for the sixth year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible descent. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the six major exporters of canned mushrooms, namely Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and Chile, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Brazil (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Panama (with a CAGR of +16.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) emerged as the largest canned mushroom supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Costa Rica ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Panama, with an 11% share.

In Mexico, canned mushroom exports increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Costa Rica (-1.5% per year) and Panama (+10.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Colombia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

For the third consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in purchases abroad of canned mushrooms, which increased by 1% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, canned mushroom imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Chile (X tons), distantly followed by Argentina (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons), Peru (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Mexico (X tons), El Salvador (X tons) and Colombia (X tons) represented the main importers of canned mushrooms, together constituting 74% of total imports. The following importers - the Dominican Republic (X tons), Panama (X tons), Uruguay (X tons), Venezuela (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Panama (with a CAGR of +87.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest canned mushroom importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Chile ($X), Argentina ($X) and Costa Rica ($X), together accounting for 42% of total imports. Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Venezuela, Ecuador and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.

Among the main importing countries, Panama, with a CAGR of +77.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
