Production By Country in Latin America and the Caribbean
The country with the largest volume of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids production was Brazil (X tonnes), comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids production in Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Ecuador (X tonnes), tenfold.

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2020, shipments abroad of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. In general, exports showed a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids exports dropped to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2010 to 2020, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2020, Mexico (X tonnes) was the key exporter of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids, constituting X% of total exports. Brazil (X tonnes) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Chile (X tonnes) and Colombia (X tonnes). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Peru (X tonnes), Guatemala (X tonnes) and Venezuela (X tonnes) - each recorded a X% share of total exports.
From 2007 to 2020, average annual rates of growth with regard to glycosides and vegetable alkaloids exports from Mexico stood at -X%. At the same time, Chile (+X%), Colombia (+X%), Guatemala (+X%) and Peru (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2020. Venezuela experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Brazil (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Chile (+X p.p.), Colombia (+X p.p.), Mexico (+X p.p.), Guatemala (+X p.p.) and Peru (+X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2007-2020, the share of Brazil (-X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest glycosides and vegetable alkaloids supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Venezuela, with an X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value in Brazil stood at -X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (-X% per year) and Venezuela (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The glycosides and vegetable alkaloids export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per tonne in 2020, increasing by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids export price increased by +X% against 2018 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per tonne), while Mexico ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Glycosides And Vegetable Alkaloids
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
For the third consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded growth in overseas purchases of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The volume of import peaked in 2020 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, glycosides and vegetable alkaloids imports rose sharply to $X in 2020. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, imports decreased by -X% against 2013 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X tonnes) and Mexico (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of glycosides and vegetable alkaloids in 2020. Chile (X tonnes) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Costa Rica (X%). Argentina (X tonnes), Colombia (X tonnes) and Guatemala (X tonnes) occupied a minor share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest glycosides and vegetable alkaloids importing markets in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Mexico ($X) and Argentina ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Guatemala lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main importing countries, Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2020, the glycosides and vegetable alkaloids import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per tonne, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when the import price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per tonne), while Guatemala ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
