Dried Potato Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2017, exports of dried potatoes in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to X tonnes, going up by X% against the previous year. The dried potato exports continue to indicate a moderate contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015, with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the dried potato exports attained its peak figure volume of X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2017, it failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, dried potato exports totaled $X in 2017. The dried potato exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the dried potato exports attained its maximum level of $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Dried Potato Exports by Country in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2017, Mexico (X tonnes), Chile (X tonnes) and Peru (X tonnes) represented the key exporters of dried potatoes in Latin America and the Caribbean, achieving X% of total export. It was distantly followed by the Dominican Republic (X tonnes), Argentina (X tonnes) and Ecuador (X tonnes), together making up X% share of total exports. Guatemala (X tonnes) held the weak share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Guatemala (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Chile ($X), Mexico ($X) and Peru ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2017, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, which together accounted for a further X%.

Among the main exporting countries , Guatemala (+X% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of exports, over the last decade, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dried Potato Export Prices by Country in Latin America and the Caribbean

The dried potato export price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per tonne in 2017, standing approx. at the previous year. The export price indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2017: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the dried potato export price decreased by -X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by X% year-to-year. The level of export price peaked of $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2017, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2017, the country with the highest export price was Chile ($X per tonne), while the Dominican Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2017, the most notable rate of growth in terms of export prices was attained by Chile (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dried Potato Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2017, approx. X tonnes of dried potatoes were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; picking up by X% against the previous year. The total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2017: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, the dried potato imports increased by +X% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when imports increased by X% year-to-year. The volume of imports peaked in 2017, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dried potato imports stood at $X in 2017. The dried potato imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the dried potato imports reached its maximum level in 2017, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Dried Potato Imports by Country in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2017, Brazil (X tonnes) was the largest importer for dried potatoes, generating X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tonnes), Chile (X tonnes) and Argentina (X tonnes), together comprising X% share of total imports. The following importers - Guatemala (X tonnes), the Dominican Republic (X tonnes), Costa Rica (X tonnes), Venezuela (X tonnes), Colombia (X tonnes), Ecuador (X tonnes) and Uruguay (X tonnes) together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Brazil increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2017. At the same time, Ecuador (+X%), Costa Rica (+X%), Mexico (+X%), Uruguay (+X%), Chile (+X%), Venezuela (+X%), Guatemala (+X%), Colombia (+X%) and the Dominican Republic (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ecuador emerged as the fastest growing importer in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2017. Argentina experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Ecuador (-X%), Costa Rica (-X%), Chile (-X%), Mexico (-X%) and Brazil (-X%) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried potatoes in Latin America and the Caribbean, making up X% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($X), with a X% share of global imports. It was followed by Chile, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2017, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil stood at +X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+X% per year) and Chile (+X% per year).

The dried potato import price in Latin America and the Caribbean stood at $X per tonne in 2017, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when the import prices increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the import prices for dried potatoes reached its peak figure level in 2017, and is expected to retain its growth in the near future.

Import prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest import price was Guatemala ($X per tonne), while Brazil ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
