Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2023, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of d-glucitol (sorbitol), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sorbitol exports shrank significantly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the key exporter of d-glucitol (sorbitol) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Guatemala (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Colombia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total exports. The following exporters - El Salvador (X tons) and Cuba (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Guatemala (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sorbitol supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Brazil ($X), Guatemala ($X) and Colombia ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Guatemala, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sorbitol imports shrank modestly to $X in 2023. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the largest importer of d-glucitol (sorbitol) in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Mexico (X tons), Argentina (X tons), Peru (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together achieving a X% share of total imports. Chile (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while Guatemala ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
