Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2022, shipments abroad of flaked or rolled cereals decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X tons) represented the largest exporter of flaked or rolled cereals, comprising X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports. Brazil (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to flaked or rolled cereal exports from Argentina stood at X%. At the same time, Chile (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Flaked or Rolled Cereals
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of flaked or rolled cereals decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Uruguay was the largest importer of flaked or rolled cereals in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Chile (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and Colombia (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports. The following importers - Guatemala (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Peru (X tons) - each recorded a X% share of total imports.
Imports into Uruguay increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Peru (X%), Colombia (X%), Guatemala (X%) and Ecuador (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Chile (X%) and Mexico (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uruguay (X p.p.), Colombia (X p.p.) and Peru (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Mexico and Chile saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Uruguay ($X), Mexico ($X) and Chile ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising X% of total imports. Colombia, Guatemala, Ecuador and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Among the main importing countries, Peru, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
