In general, exports continue to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cement clinker exports declined to $X in 2019. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Peru represented the main exporter of cement clinker in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports accounting for X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2019. Barbados (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Costa Rica (X%), Mexico (X%) and Brazil (X%). Venezuela (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Barbados (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X), Costa Rica ($X) and Barbados ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2019, together accounting for X% of total exports.

Over the period under review, export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

In 2019, overseas purchases of cement clinker decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2016, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2007 to 2019: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, imports increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, imports failed to regain the momentum.

All these countries together took near X% share of total imports. Haiti (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2019, average annual rates of growth with regard to cement clinker imports into Chile stood at +X%. At the same time, Colombia (+X%), Haiti (+X%), Nicaragua (+X%), Brazil (+X%), Guatemala (+X%) and Peru (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Colombia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2019.
