Biological Product Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

Biological Product Exports
Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean
Biological product exports expanded slightly to X tons in 2023, with an increase of X% compared with the previous year. Total exports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, biological product exports shrank to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2023, Argentina (X tons) represented the largest exporter of biological products, comprising X% of total exports. Paraguay (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Uruguay (X%), Brazil (X%), Chile (X%) and Nicaragua (X%). Mexico (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to biological product exports from Argentina stood at X%. At the same time, Nicaragua (X%), Paraguay (X%), Brazil (X%), Chile (X%) and Uruguay (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nicaragua emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Mexico (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Paraguay (X p.p.), Nicaragua (X p.p.), Argentina (X p.p.) and Brazil (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Uruguay (X p.p.) and Mexico (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest biological product supplying countries in Latin America and the Caribbean were Argentina ($X), Brazil ($X) and Uruguay ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Mexico, Paraguay, Chile and Nicaragua lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.
Nicaragua, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Biological Product Imports
Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2023, supplies from abroad of biological products decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, biological product imports declined modestly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2023, Colombia (X tons) was the largest importer of biological products, achieving X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Brazil (X tons), Mexico (X tons), Ecuador (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Peru (X tons), together comprising a X% share of total imports. Argentina (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to biological product imports into Colombia stood at X%. At the same time, Chile (X%), Ecuador (X%), Peru (X%) and Argentina (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Mexico (X%) and Brazil (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
