For the fourth consecutive year, LatAmerica and the Caribbean recorded decline in shipments abroad of aluminium tubes and pipes, which decreased by -6.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium tube exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 22%. Exports by Country

Brazil prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 80% of total exports in 2021. Mexico (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 7.6% share, followed by the Dominican Republic (6.1%).

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium tube exports from Brazil stood at -6.8%. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+13.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +13.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mexico (-27.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Brazil (+31 p.p.) and the Dominican Republic (+5.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Mexico (-35.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest aluminium tube supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

In Brazil, aluminium tube exports shrank by an average annual rate of -7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-22.6% per year) and the Dominican Republic (+28.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2021, supplies from abroad of aluminium tubes and pipes increased by 27% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.5% against 2016 indices. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium tube imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 16%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Mexico represented the largest importer of aluminium tubes and pipes in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Dominican Republic (X tons), comprising a 14% share of total imports. Argentina (X tons), Colombia (X tons), Peru (X tons), Ecuador (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of aluminium tubes and pipes. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (+28.8%), Ecuador (+2.6%) and Peru (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +28.8% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Argentina (-3.1%), Brazil (-3.9%) and Colombia (-6.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Dominican Republic (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Argentina, Colombia and Mexico saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -3.6% and -5.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
