The Latin American aluminium hydroxide market contracted significantly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -26.2% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas shipments of aluminium hydroxide decreased by -0.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium hydroxide exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil represented the largest exporter of aluminium hydroxide in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Jamaica (X tons), comprising a 12% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium hydroxide exports from Brazil stood at +9.7%. At the same time, Jamaica (+13.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jamaica emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of +13.3% from 2012-2021. In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest aluminium hydroxide supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Jamaica ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.

In Brazil, aluminium hydroxide exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the period from 2012-2021.

In 2021, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Jamaica stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, approx. X tons of aluminium hydroxide were imported in Latin America and the Caribbean; with an increase of 4.7% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium hydroxide imports amounted to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. In 2021, Mexico (X tons) was the major importer of aluminium hydroxide, achieving 43% of total imports. Argentina (X tons) held a 23% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (8.7%) and Chile (5.9%). Peru (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
