Alcohols Exports

Exports in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2020, overseas shipments of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, alcohols exports fell dramatically to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2020, Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) was the major exporter of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives, comprising X% of total exports. Venezuela (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Chile (X%). Brazil (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Trinidad and Tobago increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2020. At the same time, Chile (X%) and Brazil (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Chile emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2020. By contrast, Venezuela (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Trinidad and Tobago amounted to X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Venezuela (X% per year) and Chile (X% per year).

In 2020, the export price in Latin America and the Caribbean amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, alcohols imports shrank modestly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Brazil represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded X% of total imports. Mexico (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Colombia (X%) and Argentina (X%). Peru (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Brazil was also the fastest-growing in terms of the alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2020. At the same time, Peru (X%) and Mexico (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Argentina and Colombia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern.
