Exports from Kuwait

In 2022, overseas shipments of paperboard case materials decreased by -13.5% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paperboard case material exports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 51%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tons) was the main destination for paperboard case material exports from Kuwait, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with a 2.1% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was held by Sri Lanka (X tons), with a 1.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Saudi Arabia totaled +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-8.2% per year) and Sri Lanka (-19.6% per year).

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the key foreign market for paperboard case materials exports from Kuwait, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 3.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Jordan, with a 1.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Saudi Arabia stood at +4.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-5.4% per year) and Jordan (+0.8% per year).

In 2022, the average paperboard case material export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Kuwait

In 2022, approx. X tons of paperboard case materials were imported into Kuwait; shrinking by -16.4% on 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, paperboard case material imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

India (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of paperboard case material imports to Kuwait, with a combined 24% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +69.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest paperboard case material suppliers to Kuwait were India ($X), Germany ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 23% share of total imports. Saudi Arabia, France, Spain, Indonesia, Turkey, Qatar, Poland and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +69.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average paperboard case material import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -8.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while the price for Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
