Photographic Paper Market Size in Kenya

In 2021, the Kenyan photographic paper market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the fourth consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a perceptible setback. Photographic paper consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic paper exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 631%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Uganda (X square meters) was the main destination for photographic paper exports from Kenya, accounting for a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, photographic paper exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Rwanda (X square meters), threefold.

In 2021, purchases abroad of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles increased by 18% to X square meters, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 227%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, photographic paper imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 219% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X square meters), the UK (X square meters) and the Netherlands (X square meters) were the main suppliers of photographic paper imports to Kenya, with a combined 47% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +37.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic paper, paperboard and textiles to Kenya, comprising 40% of total imports.
