Ethiopia (X units), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X units) and Uganda (X units) were the main destinations of motorcycle, scooter and side-car exports from Kenya.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ethiopia (with a CAGR of +120.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ethiopia ($X) remains the key foreign market for motorcycle, scooter and side-car exports from Kenya, comprising 4,071% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X), with a 1,050% share of total exports. It was followed by Uganda, with an 840% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ethiopia amounted to +104.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Democratic Republic of the Congo (+74.0% per year) and Uganda (+48.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average motorcycle, scooter and side-car export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -10.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 87% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ethiopia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Rwanda ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+18.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Kenya
In 2021, imports of motorcycles, scooters and side-cars into Kenya expanded notably to X units, growing by 8.9% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 37%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, motorcycle, scooter and side-car imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

India (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of motorcycle, scooter and side-car imports to Kenya.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in India (with a CAGR of +19.2%).
In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of motorcycle, scooter and side-car to Kenya, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 30% share of total imports.
