Grain Exports

Exports from Kenya

In 2022, overseas shipments of grain decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grain exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uganda (X tons) was the main destination for grain exports from Kenya, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, grain exports to Uganda exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), sevenfold. Saudi Arabia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.
