In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Kazakh lemon and lime market, when its value decreased by -35.2% to $X. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lemon and lime exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 476% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) was the main destination for lemon and lime exports from Kazakhstan, accounting for a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, lemon and lime exports to Kyrgyzstan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uzbekistan (X tons), tenfold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Kyrgyzstan totaled +120.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uzbekistan (+27.0% per year) and Russia (+73.5% per year).

In value terms, Kyrgyzstan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for lemon and lime exports from Kazakhstan, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tajikistan ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 15% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Kyrgyzstan amounted to +132.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tajikistan (0.0% per year) and Uzbekistan (+31.4% per year).

In 2021, the average lemon and lime export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 58% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
