Wrapping Papers Market Size in Japan

After three years of growth, the Japanese wrapping papers market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth of the market failed to regain the momentum.

Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, wrapping papers exports soared to $X in 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tonnes), South Korea (X tonnes) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes) were the main destinations of wrapping papers exports from Japan, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Viet Nam, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Viet Nam, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from Japan were China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. Malaysia, Thailand, Viet Nam and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Viet Nam saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average wrapping papers export price amounted to $X per tonne, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2020, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Viet Nam ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wrapping papers imports into Japan plummeted to X tonnes in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wrapping papers imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2020. In general, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2013 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2020, China (X tonnes) constituted the largest wrapping papers supplier to Japan, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, wrapping papers imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tonnes), threefold. South Korea (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
