China (X tons) was the main destination for orange juice (single strength) exports from Japan, with a 59% share of total exports. Moreover, orange juice (single strength) exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X tons), twofold. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +31.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+24.9% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+30.7% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for orange juice (single strength) exports from Japan, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +40.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+23.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+36.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average orange juice (single strength) export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -16.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 66%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average orange juice (single strength) import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -6% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 9.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while the price for Cyprus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
