Shampoo Market Size in Japan

The Japanese shampoo market rose significantly to $X in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, shampoo exports expanded sharply to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

China (X tonnes) was the main destination for shampoo exports from Japan, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, shampoo exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-X% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for shampoo exports from Japan, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average shampoo export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, shampoo export price increased by +X% against 2016 indices. As a result, export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Viet Nam ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Japan

In 2020, purchases abroad of shampoos decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, shampoo imports contracted to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Thailand (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of shampoo to Japan, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, shampoo imports from Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Viet Nam (X tonnes), sevenfold. China (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Thailand was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Viet Nam (+X% per year) and China (-X% per year).
