The Japanese aircraft propeller market fell to $X in 2022, waning by X% against the previous year. In 2022, overseas shipments of propellers and rotors for civil non-powered aircraft, helicopters and aeroplanes decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, saw perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft propeller exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Bahamas (X tons), Trinidad and Tobago (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) were the main destinations of aircraft propeller exports from Japan, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahamas (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for propellers and rotors for civil non-powered aircraft, helicopters and aeroplanes exports from Japan, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bahamas ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the Philippines stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bahamas (X% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average aircraft propeller export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Trinidad and Tobago ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Aircraft Propeller Imports

Imports into Japan

After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of propellers and rotors for civil non-powered aircraft, helicopters and aeroplanes decreased by X% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft propeller imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of aircraft propeller to Japan, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, aircraft propeller imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (X% per year) and Italy (X% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the largest aircraft propeller suppliers to Japan, together comprising X% of total imports. Italy, Germany, Canada and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

In 2022, the average aircraft propeller import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, aircraft propeller import price decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X,666 per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
