Potato Market Size in Japan

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked in 2018 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, potato exports amounted to $X in 2018. Over the period under review, potato exports continue to indicate an abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, potato exports attained their peak figure at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

Exports by Country

Angola (X tonnes), Malaysia (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) were the main destinations of potato exports from Japan, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by China, Hong Kong SAR, Suriname, Singapore and Taiwan, Chinese, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Suriname, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Angola ($X) and the U.S. ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for potato exported from Japan worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the highest prices were recorded for prices to China, Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne) and Singapore ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Angola ($X per tonne) and Taiwan, Chinese ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Suriname, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, the amount of potatoes imported into Japan totaled X tonnes, coming down by -X% against the previous year. In general, potato imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion.
